Moving Spirit Still Rings True
I invited several friends and associates, people who have recognized their own genius for some time, to write guest posts about their experience. This post is…

Defining moments, no matter how long ago they occurred, are never forgotten. I was 17 years old, a senior in high school, when a hidden world opened up to me. I took a brand new class being offered for the first time in creative writing. Like Alice in Wonderland, I walked through the looking glass and discovered a deeper part of myself through the act of writing.
Almost 30 years went by before I wrote in earnest again. Marriage, graduate school, kids, career, and a new business start-up intervened.
I got back into writing almost by “accident.” It was 1998 and I needed a way to market my young coaching business. I decided to write a newsletter and called it In the Spirit of Success. Little did I know how much writing this ezine would later give expression to my genius.
The same year I began writing my ezine, I was introduced to Dick Richards’ work about genius. I worked on Dick’s exercises to find and name my genius. Weeks went by. I couldn’t seem to nail it.
Then another one of those defining moments arrived. While out driving around on a beautiful day, listening to a favorite song, the name “moving spirit” was downloaded. As soon as I heard it, my body shivered with goose bumps. I felt my face break out in a huge smile. Energy surged through me. The name of my genius found me – finally!
Moving Spirit became my web domain name in 1999. The following year I formed a legal entity for my business, and registered it as Moving Spirit, LLC.
Knowing my genius - moving spirit – has helped me get back in sync with myself when I veer off course. It’s about finding that alignment, or fit, between who I am, and how I act. “Moving” is the act of connecting with my “spirit,” that intuitive, inner knowing, to bring more of the real Debbie out into the world. And helping others to do the same.
My genius is inexplicably linked with my writing. One cannot exist without the other. As I connect within, I write with more honesty. Writing gives me two gifts – self-discovery, and self-expression. As I learn from these gifts, I translate my insights into concepts that others can benefit from. Writing allows me to give back.
Lately I’ve been itching to stretch myself. Maybe not play so small. Move beyond the comfort zone of my professional identity as a coach. See what else is out there. Guess my genius is feeling a bit cramped these days. So I set up a blog recently – Spirit in Gear – to focus on tips that help you to profit from your inner knowing. I find the immediate and dynamic quality of blogs appealing. Would love to have you stop by and visit Spirit in Gear. While there read what I learned when I named my blog.
My parting wish – may your genius be at work in your life, enriching and delighting you in limitless ways.

Welcome to the blogosphere Debbie! I can’t imagine finding one’s genius let alone it finding me. I can imagine the journey taken in seek of it though. I’ve only to look in my rear view mirror.

Another Buckeye Fan - a man after my own heart! Remember, Dave, you do “know” more than you think. Ask the people who know you best - they’ll give you strong hints on your genius - that’s what I did to prime the pump.
