Bits and Pieces
Why did Troy Worman say, “This is why I blog”? Have a look at the discussion that he and I and Chris Bailey have been holding about leadership at Chris’s blog The Alchemy of Soulful Work.
In the strange world of amazon.com, I made $5.29 last month from people clicking through from my site to buy 50 Baroque Solos for Classical Guitar, 50 Renaissance Solos for Classical Guitar (that’s a LOT of guitar), Dead Sea Scrolls Deception, Leaves of Grass, The Merovingian Mythos and the Mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau, and Speck Nano SkinTight Single w/ Screen Protector Black. Go figure. If it was you who bought any of that stuff, thanks! If not, I published those links because, obviously, there are tie-ins with my work even though I can’t imagine what they might be. I have to admit–I do like the tie-in with Walt Whitman.
Lisa Haneberg is now signing people up for her 2 Weeks to a Breakthrough program to help them kick-start or restart achievement of their goals. I haven’t taken this program, but people who have speak highly of it, including Dwayne Melancon. Lisa also hosted a lively discussion about genius at Third Age Blog.
An unexpected joy of blogging has been re-connecting with people from my past. For example, Debbie Call and Jesse Freese (I hadn’t seen either of them for 5 or more years) both wrote guest posts here about their geniuses. Debbie is blogging at Spirit In Gear. Then a couple of days ago I received an e-mail from George Fitzpatrick, who is now retired after 38 years in management at Exxon/Mobil. He attended a workshop that I led for Exxon maybe 20 years ago and still remembers the name he chose for his genius–Creating an Edge. George told me that over those 20 years…
I found that the best way to create an edge with the organizations I lead later on was to teach them leadership. I also found lots of leverage in teaching leadership, not just with the top 10%, but with the next 80%, where I found much more leverage and success. All this brought me to where I am today, running my own small business and hopefully connecting my genius to my purpose.
I enjoyed phone calls with two fellow bloggers lately: Kevin Eickenberry and Tim Milburn. Just let’s talk kind of talk, but great to hear voices, compare notes, etc. I’ve been taking peeks at Kevin’s book, Vantagepoints On Learning and Life, and liking it very much. More about that in a later post.
I like finding new voices. The most recent new (at least to me) voices in my blogroll, along with Debbie Call, are Jory Des Jardins, Chris Owen, EM Sky, and Terrence Seamon. I am looking forward to hearing more from them. Chris helped me get over a mild and brief flirtation with calculus (feel free to ignore this link).
