CPLOI Trends
…with a nod to Bill Maher, who said, “Serious is what you need to be until you can get silly again.”
Response to my previous post about the CPLOI has been gratifying. People actually counted the various conjunctions used in their blogs. Gosh!
Here are preliminary conclusions:
1. It appears that and-ers, or-ers, and but-ers are evenly divided within the population of English-speaking people. Precisely one-third of all respondents preferred each of the three alternatives (see “sample-size” below).
2. Preference for a particular conjunction may be cultural, with English-speaking Indians preferring and, Australians preferring but, and Brits preferring or.
These are, as I said, preliminary conclusions. The sample size — three respondents — is not yet large enough to provide meaningful conclusions.
Comments by the respondents are being used to develop profiles of each conjunction-preference type. Watch this blog for up-dates. Please take your CPLOI inventory and report your results. See comments to the previous post for hints about taking your CPLOI inventory.

Michelle — keep laughing!
Astha — I’ve long been interested in how the structure of language and word choices, quite apart from the content of what is being said, reveal a person’s inner world. Language is a window into self-awareness. This is just one example, and I decided to have some fun with it.
Have a look at my post category Talking & Listening for more about this
