How Catherine Holmes Finds Gems
Catherine Holmes calls her genius Finding Gems. Among the many ways that it shows up is in her art — mixed media 3-D computer-assembled collages that convey a spiritual message.
This is a favorite of mine, Princess Harley.

Catherine finds the gems that form her art in two ways. First, she scours old books, magazines and photographs for gems that she might incorporate into one of her works. Second, she finds the gem that is the work itself through a revelatory process that she describes as watching a dream emerge while she is awake. From beginning to end, her collages take an average of one year to complete.
This one is titled What I Seek.

Wow, huh? I find these works utterly amazing! Beautiful, and rich in symbol and detail. A strong central image, yet the eyes want to wander everywhere across them.
You can see more of Catherine’s work at catherineholmes.com where a selection of cards and prints are for sale. Even if you have no intention of buying, go have a look.
