A famous quote says : “Good leaders are made not born”. Basically, if you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Well, leaders like John Maxwell can say that, because they had this nature “thing” that made them being better students of leadership. Didn’t it ever happen to you to think : “Waw, this guy is a natural-born leader !” Yes, of course, and some people just have natural predispositions to becoming a leader, just like some people have natural predispositions to becoming a singer or an artist.
Now, I’m not saying that nobody who does not have natural abilities to leadership, cannot become a leader, or even more, cannot become a great leader. I’m just saying that we have natural predispositions for some things, but the strength of our willpower can also drive us wherever we want to be.
Leaders are usually persons who spend a lot of time organizing their personal and professional life. They want to find better ways to improve their efficiency, and they like to prioritize their daily tasks. The art of leadership is set of qualities like knowledge, values, competence and behavior, because everyone has a different point of view about an efficient leader’s characteristics.
The first thing that is required for somebody who aspires to becoming an efficient leader, is to have a positive self-esteem but also to know what their strengths and weaknesses are. The second thing required to be a great leader is to be able to ask questions, but above all, to listen to the answer sincerely and carefully. It is way easier to “hear” the answer instead of “listening” carefully what somebody has to tell yo u.
Also, communication plays a big role in leadership. And having your team participating to the evolution of your company or your project is very valuable. This is why a leader has to communicate all results to his team members, and give them the opportunity to give their opinion so they feel like they belong to the process of evolution.
